Condition: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a disabling and complex illness that can last for years. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome causes overwhelming fatigue that is not improved by rest and may get worse after any activity, whether it’s physical or mental.

While most common in people between 40 and 60 years old, an estimated 836,000 to 2.5 million Americans suffer from the illness, and it affects children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. Among adults, women are affected more often than men, but about 90 percent of people with this illness have not been diagnosed. People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are often not able to do their usual activities and at times may be confined to bed, even though they may not look ill.

Western Medicine has been unable to establish the cause of CFS.  Holistic medicine seems to indicate multiple causational issues for this illness.  Epstein Barr or other infections, Endocrine disorders, sleep issues, genetic factors and physical or mental stress are among the major root causes for this illness.

Symptoms

Also called “core” symptoms, three primary symptoms are required for diagnosis:

  • Greatly lowered ability to do activities that were usual before the illness. This drop in activity level occurs along with fatigue and must last six months or longer. People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have fatigue that is very different from just being tired. The fatigue this illness:
    • Can be severe.
    • Is not a result of unusually difficult activity.
    • Is not relieved by sleep or rest.
    • It was not a problem before becoming ill (not life-long).
  • Worsening of symptoms after physical or mental activity that would not have caused a problem before illness. This is known as post-exertional malaise (PEM). People with this illness often describe this experience as a “crash,” “relapse,” or “collapse.” During PEM, any other symptoms may get worse or first appear, including difficulty thinking, problems sleeping, sore throat, headaches, feeling dizzy, or severe tiredness. It may take days, weeks, or longer to recover from a crash. Sometimes patients may be house-bound or even completely bed-bound during crashes. People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may not be able to predict what will cause a crash or how long it will last. As examples:
    • Attending a child’s school event may leave someone house-bound for a couple of days and not able to do needed tasks, like laundry.
    • Shopping at the grocery store may cause a physical crash that requires a nap in the car before driving home or a call for a ride home.
    • Taking a shower may leave someone bed-bound and unable to do anything for days.
    • Keeping up with work may lead to spending evenings and weekends recovering from the effort.
  • Sleep problems. People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may not feel better or less tired, even after a full night of sleep. Some people may have problems falling asleep or staying asleep.

In addition to these core symptoms, one of the following two symptoms is required for diagnosis:

  • Problems with thinking and memory. Most people with this illness have trouble thinking quickly, remembering things, and paying attention to details. Patients often say they have “brain fog” to describe this problem because they feel “stuck in a fog” and not able to think clearly.
  • Worsening of symptoms while standing or sitting upright. This is called orthostatic intolerance. People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may be lightheaded, dizzy, weak, or faint while standing or sitting up. They may have vision changes like blurring or seeing spots.

Many but not all people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have other symptoms.

Pain is very common in people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The type of pain, where it occurs, and how bad it is varies a lot. The pain that people feel with this illness is not caused by an injury. The most common types of pain in are:

  • Muscle pain and aches
  • Joint pain without swelling or redness
  • Headaches, either new or worsening

Some people may also have:

  • Tender lymph nodes in the neck or armpits
  • A sore throat that happens often
  • Digestive issues, like irritable bowel syndrome
  • Chills and night sweats
  • Allergies and sensitivities to foods, odors, chemicals, light, or noise
  • Muscle weakness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Irregular heartbeat

Root Causes

The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is still unknown in the conventional realm.  A combination of factors may be involved, including:

  • Genetics. CFS appears to run in some families, so some people may be born with a higher likelihood of developing the disorder.
  • Infections. Some people develop CFS symptoms after getting better from a viral, bacterial  or fungal infections.  Epstein Barr and Candida infections are commonly found in CFS,.
  • Physical or emotional trauma. Some people report that they experienced an injury, surgery or significant emotional stress shortly before their symptoms began.
  • Metabolic Disorders - Problems with energy usage. Some people with CFS have problems converting the body's fuel, primarily fats and sugars, into energy.
  • Adrenal Issues and or Thyroid Issues
  • Circulation and Heart Issues
  • Nutritional Deficiencies

Nutritional Support Items

ESSENTIAL:

  • Chromium polynicotinate: Aids in controlling hypoglycemia. Take 200–300 mg daily.(NS Adrenal TLP)
  • Coenzyme Q10 (FGF CoMega): Coenzyme Q10 enhances the effectiveness of the immune system and protects the heart. Coenzyme A works with coenzyme Q10 and aids in the removal of toxic substances from the body. For coenzyme Q10, take 75 mg daily. For Coenzyme A, take as directed on label.
  • Essential fatty acids (NS Omega Complete)
  • L-carnitine: Transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, where it is used to make ATP, thus increasing energy levels. Take 1,000 mg daily, on an empty stomach. Take with 50 mg vitamin B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption.
  • Lecithin granules or capsules (TE Lypozyme): Promotes energy and enhances immunity. For granules, take 1 tbsp 3 times daily, with meals. For capsules, take 1,200 mg 3 times daily, with meals.
  • Malic acid, and magnesium: Malic acid is involved in energy production in many cells of the body, including muscle cells. Needed for sugar metabolism. Deficiency has been linked to CFS. Magnesium (NS Magnesium Complex) is often deficient in people with CFS, magnesium is needed for ATP synthesis. For malic acid, take as directed on label. For magnesium, take up to 2 capsules 3-4 times daily.
  • Manganese (NS Manganese Plus): Influences the metabolic rate by its involvement in endocrine function. Take 2-3 capsules daily
  • Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH): Studies have shown that it increases energy levels and aids in preventing depression. Take 10–20 mg with water first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach.
  • Proteolytic enzymes (NS Proteolytic Enzymes): Reduces inflammation and improves absorption of nutrients, especially protein, which is needed for tissue repair. Take up to 2 capsules 3 to 4 times daily, on an empty stomach.
  • Vitamin A with mixed carotenoids, and vitamin E: Vitamin A with mixed carotenoids is a Powerful free radical scavengers that protect the cells and enhance immune function to fight viruses. Use emulsion forms for easier assimilation and greater safety at high doses. Use d-alpha-tocopherol form of vitamin E. For vitamin A with mixed carotenoids, take up to 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU) daily for 1 month, then slowly reduce. If you are pregnant, do not exceed 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU) daily. For vitamin E, take 90 mg (200 IU) daily for 1 month, then slowly reduce to 45 mg (100 IU) daily.
  • Vitamin C with bioflavonoids (NS Liposomal Vitamin C): Has a powerful antiviral effect and increases the energy level. Take up to 2,000 mg daily.

VERY IMPORTANT:

  • Amino acid (NS Amino Complex): For tissue and organ repair. Use a formula containing all the essential amino acids. Take 2-4 capsules daily
  • Natural Greens Supplement (NS Green Max): To improve digestion and cleanse the bloodstream. Take 2 capsules 3-4 times daily.
  • B1 AND B12: Provides energy and builds red blood cells. Take as directed on label.
  • Vitamin B complex injections, plus extra vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), and vitamin B12, plus liver extract injections, or vitamin B complex, plus pantothenic acid: B vitamins are essential for increased energy levels and normal brain function. Injections (under a doctor’s supervision) are best. All injectables can be combined in a single syringe. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) aids in absorption of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is a natural energy booster needed to prevent anemia. Liver extract injections are a good source of B vitamins plus other valuable nutrients. Pantothenic acid is needed for proper adrenal function. For vitamin B complex injections, take 2 cc twice weekly or as prescribed by physician. For vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), take ½ cc twice weekly or as prescribed by physician. For vitamin B12, take 1 cc twice weekly or as prescribed by physician. For liver extract injections, take 2 cc twice weekly or as prescribed by physician. For pantothenic acid, take 100 mg 3 times daily. If injections are not available, a sublingual form of vitamin B complex is recommended for best results. Take 100 mg of each major B vitamin (thiamine and riboflavin) 3 times daily. Do not exceed 35 mg niacin, 100 mg vitamin B6, and 1,000 mcg folate daily.

IMPORTANT:

  • D-ribose: Ribose is a sugar needed by the mitochondria to produce energy for the cells. In one study, 66 percent of patients found that they had more energy. Take 5 grams, 3 times daily.
  • Gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA): To maintain proper control of brain activity and to control anxiety. Take as directed on label, on an empty stomach. Take with water or juice. Do not take with milk. Take with 50 mg vitamin B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption.
  • Multivitamin and mineral complex with calcium, and potassium, and selenium, and zinc: All nutrients are necessary in balance. Use a high-potency, hypoallergenic product. For multivitamin and mineral complex with calcium, take 1,500 mg daily. For potassium, take 99 mg daily. For selenium, take 200 mcg daily. For zinc, take up to 40 mg daily.
  • Raw thymus glandular, and spleen glandular, plus raw glandular complex (NS Immune Formula): To boost the immune system. 2 capsules 3-4 times daily.
  • Shiitake extract, or reishi extract, or maitake extract: Help to combat fatigue, boost immunity, and fight viral infection (NS Immune Support). 2 capsules 3-4 times daily.

HELPFUL:

  • Acidophilus: To replace necessary “friendly” bacteria. Also fights candida infection. Chronic fatigue and candidiasis often occur together. Use a nondairy formula. Take as directed on label.
  • Melatonin (NS Sleep Formula): A natural sleep-regulating hormone that is helpful for promoting sound, restful sleep. Take 2-4 capsules 1 hour before bedtime.

     Bio-Energetic Balancing Remedies Suggestions

Because there are many causes for CFS you will need to review the intake form and the Comprehensive to give you enough information to make a complete remedy.  This condition can be caused by EBV, CMV or other Viral infection, Adrenal Fatigue, Hypothyroidism, Elevated Free Radical activity, Backed up lymphatic system (toxicity overload), Poor Circulatory function, Heart Issues, Inactivity, Nutritional deficiencies (especially iron and B12), Genetics/Methylation issues etc.. You may need to run further scans based on what you determine to be the cause.

To make a simple remedy without running additional scans you can go to an empty hold tank and use the Search Criteria to add energies for symptoms and to add the above listed homeopathics.  Imprint the remedy into a correlating homeopathic.
