ESSENTIAL:

Alpha-lipoic acid (NS Alpha Lipoic Acid): For treatment of peripheral nerve damage in diabetic patients. Helps control blood sugar levels. Take as directed on label.

Chromium picolinate (EQ Chromium Picolinate): Chromium picolinate improves insulin’s efficiency, which lowers blood sugar levels. Caution: If you have diabetes, consult with your physician before taking any supplement containing chromium. For chromium picolinate, take 400–600 mcg daily.

L-carnitine, plus L-glutamine, plus taurine: L-carnitine mobilizes fat, L-glutamine reduces the craving for sugars, and taurine aids in the release of insulin. For L-carnitine, take 500 mg twice daily, on an empty stomach. Take with water or juice. Do not take with milk. Take with 50 mg vitamin B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption. For L-carnitine, take 500 mg twice daily on an empty stomach. For L-glutamine, take 500 mg twice daily, on an empty stomach. For taurine, take 500 mg twice daily, on an empty stomach.
- Quercetin (EQ Quercetin 10 drops 2-3 times daily): Helps protect the membranes of the lens of the eyes from accumulations of polyols as a result of high glucose levels. Take 100 mg 3 times daily.
- Raw adrenal glandular, and raw pancreas glandular, and thyroid glandular (NS Adrenal TLP 2 caps 3 times daily THIS IS A FAVORITE FOR HYPOGLYCEMIA): Aids in rebuilding and nourishing these organs. For all, take as directed on label.
- Vanadium (NS Diabetic Formula 2 caps 2-3 times daily) : Aids insulin’s ability to move glucose into the cells. Use vanadyl sulfate form. Take as directed on label.
- Vitamin B complex, plus extra biotin, and inositol (AI B Complex, EQ B Complex) B Vitamins are important for balancing of glucose and inositol is important for circulation. For vitamin B complex, take 50 mg of each major B vitamin (thiamine and riboflavin) 3 times daily. Amounts of individual vitamins in a complex will vary. Do not exceed 35 mg niacin, 100 mg vitamin B6 , and 1,000 mcg folate daily. For extra biotin, take 50 mg daily. For inositol, take 50 mg daily.
- Vitamin B12 plus folic acid (AI B12 Folate): Needed to prevent diabetic neuropathy. Injections (under a doctor’s supervision) are best. Take as prescribed by physician or directed on label.
- Zinc (EQ Zinc): Deficiency has been associated with diabetes. Take up to 40 mg daily.
VERY IMPORTANT:
- Coenzyme Q10 (EQ CoQ10 ) Improves circulation and helps to stabilize blood sugar. For Coenzyme Q10, take 80 mg daily.
- Magnesium (NS Magnesium Complex): Important for enzyme systems and pH balance. Protects against coronary artery spasm in arteriosclerosis. Increases energy levels. Low readings of magnesium are often found in people with diabetes, and are associated with the complications of eye disease. Those who eat a healthy diet rich in foods with magnesium such as whole grains and nuts are less likely to develop diabetes. Take up to 350 mg daily.
- Manganese (NS Manganese Plus): Needed for repair of the pancreas. Also a cofactor in key enzymes of glucose metabolism. Deficiency is common in people with diabetes. Take 5–10 mg daily. Take separately from calcium.
- Psyllium husks (NS Fiber Plus 2 to 6 capsules daily): Good fiber source and fat mobilizer. Take as directed on label. Take with a large glass of water. Take separately from other supplements and medications.
- Vitamin D (FGF Vital Duo, EQ D3, AI K2 and D3): Helps maintain good blood flow in patients with diabetes who live in northern climates. Take 10–20 mcg (400–800 IU) daily.

Vitamin A with carotenoids (BL Total Nutrition Plus): An important antioxidant needed to maintain the health of the eyes. Take up to 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU) daily. If you are pregnant, do not exceed 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU) daily.

Vitamin C with bioflavonoids (NS Liposomal Vitamin C): Deficiency may lead to vascular problems in people with diabetes. Vitamin C may slow or prevent complications that occur in diabetes. Take up to 2,000 mg daily.

Vitamin E (EQ Initial E): Improves circulation and prevents complications through its antioxidant properties. Take 90 mg (200 IU) daily.

Calcium: Important for pH balance. Always take calcium with vitamin D. The combination at levels near or slightly above the DRI has been shown to prevent diabetes. Be sure to get calcium and vitamin D from foods (dairy products are the best sources of both) and supplements. Take 1,500 mg daily.

Copper (EQ ZInc plus Copper): Aids in protein metabolism and in many enzyme systems. Take as directed on label. Do not exceed 10 mg daily.

Maitake extract: May help to normalize blood sugar levels. Take 1–4 gm (1,000–4,000 mg) daily.

Multienzyme complex (NS Digestive Enzymes Plus 2 caps with meals), plus proteolytic enzymes (NS Proteolytic Enzymes 2 caps between meals): To aid digestion. Proper digestion is essential in management of diabetes. For multienzyme complex, take as directed on label with meals. For proteolytic enzymes, take as directed on label between meals.

Pycnogenol or grape seed extract (NS Grape Seed Extract 2 capsules 2-3 times daily): Contains powerful antioxidants that also enhance the activity of vitamin C and strengthen connective tissue, including that of the cardiovascular system. For either, take as directed on label.
