Condition: Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia is a condition in which your blood sugar (glucose) level is lower than the standard range. Glucose is your body’s main energy source.

Symptoms
If blood sugar levels become too low, hypoglycemia signs and symptoms can include:
  • Looking pale
  • Shakiness
  • Sweating
  • Headache
  • Hunger or nausea
  • An irregular or fast heartbeat
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability or anxiety
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Tingling or numbness of the lips, tongue or cheek
As hypoglycemia worsens, signs and symptoms can include:
  • Confusion, unusual behavior or both, such as the inability to complete routine tasks
  • Loss of coordination
  • Slurred speech
  • Blurry vision or tunnel vision
  • Nightmares, if asleep
  • Severe hypoglycemia may cause:
  • Unresponsiveness (loss of consciousness)
  • Seizures

Root Causes
  • Blood sugar regulation
  • Certain medications such as antimalarial drugs
  • Deficiency of certain hormones involved in glucose metabolism e.g., cortisone
  • Delayed or skipping meals
  • Not consuming enough carbohydrates
  • Over exercising
  • Consumption of alcohol
  • Medical conditions such as hepatitis, kidney problems
  • Diseases of pancreas that can lead to increased production of insulin

Nutritional Support Items

VERY IMPORTANT:

*** NS Adrenal TLP (2 caps 3-4 times daily) has proven to be very helpful for hypoglycemia.

  • Chromium picolinate (EQ Chromium Picolinate) : Vital in glucose metabolism. Essential for optimal insulin activity. Take 300–600 mcg daily.
  • Manganese (NS Manganese Plus): Important for the maintenance of blood glucose levels. Most people with hypoglycemia have low levels of this trace mineral. Take up to 11 mg daily. Take separately from calcium.
  • Vitamin C (NS Liposomal Vitamin C): For adrenal insufficiency, common in people with hypoglycemia. Take up to 2,000 mg daily, in divided doses.
  • Protein Powder (FF Body FX) Can help stabilize blood sugar when added to meals or snacks. Take as directed on label.
  • Glutathione (EQ Glutathione 10 drops 3 times daily): A compound that is associated with the breakdown of glucose into energy. Take as directed on label.
  • Acidophilus (EQ HDA, ThreeLac, BL Probiotic Plus): To replace the friendly bacteria lacking in this disorder. Take as directed on label.
  • Pancreatin (NS Endocrine & Pancreas, NS Adrenal TLP): For proper protein digestion. Take as directed on label. Take with meals.
  • Proteolytic enzymes (NS Proteolytic Enzymes 2 caps between meals): People with this disorder often fail to digest protein properly, resulting in leaky gut syndrome and allergies. Caution: Do not give this supplement to a child. Take as directed on label. Take between meals.
  • Quercetin (EQ Quercetin 10 drops 3 times daily): Aids in stopping allergic reactions. Helpful if food allergies are a factor. Take as directed on label.
  • Vitamin B complex, plus extra vitamin B1 (thiamine), and vitamin B3 (niacin), and vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), and vitamin B12 (EQ B Complex, AI B Complex): Vitamin B complex is important in carbohydrate and protein metabolism, and proper digestion and absorption of foods; helps the body tolerate foods that produce low blood sugar reactions. Also helps counteract the effects of malabsorption disorders, common in people with hypoglycemia. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) aids in the production of hydrochloric acid, needed for proper digestion. Vitamin B3 (niacin) aids in the functioning of the nervous system and in proper digestion. Vitamin B12 is important in adrenal gland function and conversion of glucose to energy. Crucial for prevention of anemia, common because malabsorption disorders result in deficiency. For vitamin B complex, take 50–100 mg and up of each major B vitamin (thiamine and riboflavin) daily. Amounts of individual vitamins in a complex will vary. Do not exceed 35 mg niacin, 100 mg vitamin B6, and 1,000 mcg folate daily. For vitamin B1 (thiamine), take 100 mg daily. For vitamin B3 (niacin), take up to 35 mg daily. Do not exceed this amount. Caution: Do not take niacin if you have a liver disorder, gout, or high blood pressure. For vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), take 1,000 mg daily, in divided doses. For vitamin B12, take 1,000–2,000 mcg daily, on an empty stomach.
  •  Zinc (EQ Zinc): Needed for proper release of insulin. People with hypoglycemia are often zinc deficient. Take up to 40 mg daily.

IMPORTANT:

  • L-carnitine (EQ L Carnitine), plus L-cysteine, and L-glutamine: L-carnitine converts stored body fat into energy. L-cysteine blocks the action of insulin, which lowers blood sugar. L-glutamine reduces cravings for sugar. For L-carnitine and L-cysteine, take as directed on label. For L-glutamine, take 1,000 mg daily, on an empty stomach. Take with water or juice. Do not take with milk. Take with 50 mg vitamin B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption.
  • Magnesium (NS Magnesium Complex) plus calcium (NS Coral Calcium): Magnesium is important in carbohydrate (sugar) metabolism. Calcium works with magnesium. For magnesium, take up to 350 mg daily, in divided doses, after meals and at bedtime. For calcium, take 1,500 mg daily, in divided doses, after meals and at bedtime.
  • Vitamin E (EQ Initial E):  Improves energy and circulation. Take 90 mg (200 IU) daily or 180 mg (400 IU) every other day.

HELPFUL:

  • Psyllium husks (NS Ultra Colon Cleanse 2 caps at Breakfast and 1 cap at Lunch and 1 cap at dinner): Aids in slowing down blood sugar reactions and keeping the colon clean. Take on an empty stomach with aloe vera juice in the morning, separately from other supplements or medications.
  • Desiccated liver NS Liver Support 2 caps 2-3 times daily): Liver glandulars supply B vitamins and other valuable nutrients as well as strengthening the Liver.  For desiccated liver, take as directed on label.
  • Multivitamin and mineral complex (NS Liquid Life, NS Colloidal Minerals Plus): All nutrients are required for healing. Take as directed on label.
