Condition: Hypertension - High Blood Pressure

More commonly known as high blood pressure, hypertension is “a common disease in which blood flows through blood vessels, or arteries, at higher than normal pressures,” according to the National Institute of Health.

Hypertension occurs when the force against the artery walls is too high, which can cause heart attack or stroke. It can be associated with advanced age, obesity, smoking, stress, diet and nutritional deficiencies. Hypertension is also known as the silent killer because it has no early significant symptoms but creates an extra load on the heart and blood vessels.

  • The top number is your systolic pressure. This is the pressure in your arteries when your heart contracts.
  • The bottom number is your diastolic pressure. This is the pressure in your arteries when your heart relaxes between beats.

Normal blood pressure for most adults is considered to be 120/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or lower. This is written as 120/80 mm Hg, and you’d say this is “120 over 80.”

Symptoms
Headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, nosebleeds and disorientation

Root Causes
Nutritional deficiencies, lack of exercise, lack of proper hydration, toxicity of any type, diet, structural issues (esp. upper cervical or Thoracic), stress, emotional distress, genetics, blood sugar issues, smoking, lack of adequate sleep, plaqueing, blood viscocity, dental issues, kidney issues, heart issues, liver issues, lymphatic issues, elevated sodium levels and allergies are some of the most common causes for BP issues.

Nutritional Support Items

ESSENTIAL:

  • Calcium (NS Coral Calcium), and magnesium (NS Magnesium Complex), and potassium (EQ Potassium Chelate): Deficiencies have been linked to high blood pressure. For calcium, take 1,500–2,000 mg daily. For magnesium, take up to 350 mg daily. For potassium, take 99 mg daily. If you take cortisone or high blood pressure medication, take extra potassium to counteract depletion of this mineral.
  • Coenzyme Q10 (NS Cardiovascular Formula 2 caps 3 times daily, EQ Co Q10, FGF CoMega): Coenzyme Q10 improves heart function and circulation. Take as directed on label.
  • Fatty acids (NS Omega Complete 1-2 caps daily,  EQ Flaxseed oil, EQ Primrose oil): Important for circulation and for lowering blood pressure. Take as directed on label.
  •  L-arginine (NS Kidney Support 2 caps 2-3 times daily, EQ L Arginine): Shown to play an increasingly important role in heart health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Take as directed on label.
  • L-carnitine, plus L-glutamic acid, and L-glutamine: L-carnitine transports long fatty acid chains. Together with L-glutamic acid and L-glutamine, aids in preventing heart disease. L-glutamic acid and L-glutamine also detoxify ammonia. For L-carnitine, take 500 mg twice daily, on an empty stomach. For L-glutamic acid and L-glutamine, take 500 mg each daily, on an empty stomach. Take with water or juice. Do not take with milk. Take with 50 mg vitamin B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption.
  • Selenium (AI Selenium, NS Cardiovascular Formula 2 caps 3 times daily): Deficiency has been linked to heart disease. Take 200 mcg daily.
  •  Vitamin E (EQ Initial E): Improves heart function. Vitamin E also acts as a blood-thinning agent; use with caution if you are taking prescription blood thinners. . For vitamin E, take 45 mg (100 IU) daily for first month, then increase to 90 mg (200 IU) daily.

VERY IMPORTANT:

  • Vitamin C (NS Liposomal Vitamin C): Improves adrenal function; reduces blood-clotting tendencies. Take up to 2,000 mg daily, in divided doses.

IMPORTANT:

  • Lecithin granules, or capsules, or lipotropic factors: To emulsify fat, improve liver function, and lower blood pressure. For lecithin granules, take 1 tbsp 3 times daily, before meals. For capsules, take 1,200 mg 3 times daily, before meals. For lipotropic factors, take as directed on label. Another consideration for this purpose is EQ Hepa Detox OR TE Lypo to breakdown fats.

HELPFUL:

  • Bromelain (NS Kidney Support, NS Cardiovascular Formula 2 caps 3 times daily): An enzyme that aids in the digestion of fats. Take as directed on label.
  • Chinese red yeast rice extract and policosanol (NS Cardio Support): Has cholesterol-lowering properties. Take as directed on label.

  • NS Green Max 2 caps 2 times daily: This concentrated barley and wheatgrass juice contains important nutrients and aids in balancing pH issues. Take as directed on label, twice daily.
  • Maitake extract, or shiitake extract, or reishi extract (NS Liver Spleen Kidney 2 caps 2-3 times daily): To help reduce high blood pressure and prevent heart disease. For any, take as directed on label.
  • Multivitamin and mineral complex, with vitamin A, and zinc (NS Liquid Life, NS Colloidal Mineral Plus): All nutrients are needed in balance. For multivitamin and mineral complex, take as directed on label. For vitamin A, take up to 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU) daily. If you are pregnant, do not exceed 3,000 mcg (10,000 IU) daily. For zinc, up to 40 mg daily.
  • Proteolytic enzymes  (NS Proteolytic Enzymes 2 caps 3 times daily between meals): Aids in cleansing the circulatory system. Completes protein digestion. Take as directed on label. Take with meals and between meals.
  • Vitamin B complex (AI B complex EQ B Complex), plus extra vitamin B3 (niacin), and choline, and inositol (NS Choline & Inositol):  Important for circulatory function and for lowering blood pressure. For vitamin B complex, take 100 mg of each major B vitamin (thiamine and riboflavin) twice daily, with meals. Amounts of individual vitamins in a complex will vary. Do not exceed 35 mg niacin, 100 mg vitamin B6, and 1,000 mcg folate daily. For vitamin B3 (niacin), take up to 35 mg daily. Take niacin only under the supervision of a physician. For choline, take 50 mg twice daily. For inositol, take 50 mg twice daily.
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine): Reduces water content in tissues to relieve pressure on the cardiovascular system. Take up to 50 mg twice daily.  Also consider herbal diuretics like (NS Celery Seed 2 caps 2-3 times daily, NS Parsley 10 drops 3 times daily)

 Reflexology
Pressure was applied at the plantar side of the right foot at the first metatarsal bone, around 1–1.5 cm proximal to the first metatarsophalangeal joint (Figure 2). Approximately 3 kg of pressure was applied using a knuckle of the right index finger (dorsal part of the proximal interphalangeal joint in a flexing position) in a perpendicular manner and held for 15 s then released for 5 s. This hold‐release cycle was performed five times over the total course of 2 min.
